Raising Latina Visibility in Entertainment

Latinas Acting Up advances the visibility and careers of Latinas and all who identify as such across the screen, stage, and media—through advocacy, mentorship, and a powerful network of support.

Raising Our Voices. Rewriting the Industry.

A SISTERHOOD OF POWERFUL STORYTELLERS

A movement born from picket lines and powered by sisterhood.

What began as a group of SAG/AFTRA Latinas organized and led by actors/activists Diana Maria Riva and Lisa Vidal to picket in Union solidarity during the 2023 industry strike, quickly grew to become a rising community of entertainment industry Latinas sharing the impact of their collective voices. Bringing solidarity and passion every week to the picket lines, this labor movement created a sisterhood. Riva and Vidal nurtured and grew Latinas Acting Up (LAU) into a meaningful platform, offering industry Latinas support, mentorship, resources, and community, all while striving to raise the visibility of Latinas within the industry.

The group of hermanas quickly grew in rank, becoming an undeniable force sharing the impact of their collective voices.

Latinas Acting Up is a platform for Latinas and those identifying in film, TV, theater, and media—committed to raising visibility and rewriting the narrative through collective action, mentorship, and community.

Whether you're on stage, behind the camera, designing sets and characters, or cultivating stories, LAU exists to connect, uplift, and create space for every voice. This is where stories rise, and solidarity takes center stage.

What Our Hermanas Say

Real Voices. Real Impact.

Real Voices.
Real Impact.

"I am deeply proud to be a Latina and even more proud to share space with so many powerful, brilliant Hermanas through Latinas Acting Up. To be part of a collective that not only embraces our voices, but amplifies them is something I don’t take lightly.

This is a space where I feel seen. Where I feel heard. Where I feel home.

Juntas somos poderosas, imparables, y hechas de fuego antiguo.”
(Together we are powerful, unstoppable, and made of ancient fire.)"

- CHRISTAL CLONTIS-CORTANA

“Casa LAU lives up to its name. It's home to all of us.”

- YENI ALVAREZ

"Being part of this sisterhood, this movement, this network, means we have a supportive community within a business that can be isolating and brutal at times. It means friendship. It means there is always a Hermana nearby at events. It means I always have skin in the game, cheering on my Hermanas in their endeavors.

Latinas Acting Up is a celebration of our beautiful backgrounds, and it is hope for the future of our community. It’s time to change the face of Hollywood and this is a great place to start."

- TANIA MEJA

"LAU is the antidote to the feeling of being alone as a Latina in this industry. It is instant community and sisterhood and support. I'm so grateful to be a part of this group of positive creatives!"

- ROXANA ORTEGA

"LAU is a force that elevates and supports the entire Latino community through collective efforts and advocacy that started at the SAG-AFTRA picket line.

We've been plagued by the lack of Latino representation, starving for change for quite some time. Be part of history. Be LAU, the force that will bring the change through unity and collaboration. Time to raise 'la chancla'.
¡Si se puede!"
